First and foremost, they are the enablers of Donald Trump, whom I consider the most toxic President ever in America. Almost no one in the Republican Party stands for anything, they simply wait for Trump to tell what to do next, nod their pathetic heads and say yes Mr. President, can I kiss your ass while we do that?
They are the party of constant lying and “alternative facts”. The former isn’t surprising, given that their leader is an absolute pathological liar who can’t speak for more than 10 minutes without uttering multiple falsehoods. What is particularly galling about the lying however is the underlying assumption it makes about Trump supporters in specific and all of us in general. It assumes we’re simply stupid, misinformed and gullible, which in the case of true Trump supporters may not be wrong. How else can you describe a party that tells Americans things that they can see are lies right to their faces? Like all the prices are coming down so fast. No they’re not, it’s not even remotely close to true and anyone who drives by a gas station or goes to a grocery store can see it for themselves. Inflation is sin’t going down, it may have eased up for a month or two while gas prices drifted downward under the false illusion of progress in the Middle East, but that lull is over and now they are going to spike up again, driven by the surge in crude oil, gas and diesel prices which will reverberate all through the American economy. The nationwide price of diesel hit $6.20/gal this morning, does anyone really think it’s going to drop like a rock just because Donald “liar, liar, pants on fire” says so? At one point in time, Republicans cared about things like the national debt and the budget deficit, but like so many of their once sacred “principles” they’ve abandoned those, simply because the boss told them too. Looking at you Freedom Caucus, what a joke you are now. You screamed and howled every time Obama or Biden tried to spend money (quite often justifiably so), but when the Trump administration wants $350 billion more for defense, or offers up a $5000 “bribe” to the public to vote Republican in the mid terms, you don’t even blink. In fact Bernie Moreno, senator from Ohio is tripping over his own feet trying to sponsor and rush through a bill to increase the debt by $1.2 trillion to fund this “bribe” because you forgot fiscal sanity. why not another tax cut for the rich on capital gains taxes? Sure, the deficit will go up but “what me worry”?
Even worse than the fact that Republicans have no more fiscal discipline than Democrats is their choices on what to spend it on. Above all else, let’s give the rich and corporate America another tax cut because they just aren’t raking in the dollars fast enough. Corporate profits are at record highs (wonder if that has anything to do with high prices?), new tech billionaires are being minted left and right surely this isn’t the time to get the fiscal house in order is it? After all, social security falls off a funding cliff in six years but do they care? Absolutely not. What we clearly need is more Defense spending so we can start wars we don’t have a strategy for, more data centers that no one wants in their neighborhood sucking up all the water and electric power utilities and more billionaires with mega yachts. Funding more ICE agents so we can turn the whole country into a police state.
However the most persistent issue with Republicans that makes me repulsed by them is they simply don’t care about Americans. Any Americans. They are the party of fear and hatred, a party that believes only white people are discriminated against in America, a party that doesn’t care about farmers, veterans, the elderly, the sick, the poor, the children, blue collar workers or anyone else. Any number of those categories are Trump voters but do they care about them? No. They continue to invoke policies that hurt each and every one of those groups because they are cruel at heart. They view themselves as better than others because they are white or male or “christian” so it’s ok. The only groups they care about are those that fund their campaigns, oil and gas, tech industries, defense contractors and any source of “dark” money they can find. As long as some of these groups continue to vote Republican despite the evidence, they feel no compulsion to make people’s lives better. It’s the party that assumes all the world is a sucker and all we have to do is play them.
Law and order used to be a real mantra of the Republican Party. No longer. The Republican Party has become the bastion of cheating, corruption and most shockingly, the party that protects, paroles or pardons child molesters, women abusers and pedophiles. Look I’m sure that plenty of people from all political persuasions have their names in the Epstein files and would lose their careers and livelihoods should the full truth come out. But which party is the one redacting and withholding the files, eliminating any mention of Donald Trump in them while exposing victim’s names on numerous occasions to divert attention? Which party has had two Attorney Generals do everything possible to avoid letting all of the files out while simultaneously declaring “nothing to see here”? If that is so, why not release them? Which party has a President with a long history of demeaning and abusing women, one who was convicted in a case of sexual abuse that resulted in a multimillion dollar fine that he has appealed numerous times to the Supreme Court only to be denied? Which President vocalizes support for a Congressman (Max Miller) who is accused of abusing not only his wife but his children, in a manner so egregious that his father in law, a sitting U.S. senator says he’s “not fit to serve”?
Which party has continued to make assaults on the Constitution, particularly freedom of speech, freedom of the press and the right to assembly? Who tried to eliminate birthright citizenship even though it is explicitly written into the Constitution? Who along with Chief Justice John Roberts has systematically disempowered minority voting by shredding the Voting Rights Act? Who tried to cheat their way out of a midterm election loss by massive last moment gerrymandering, when that wasn’t totally successful tried to basically eliminate voting by mail (even though the Chief Hypocrite in charge, Donald Trump has done so repeatedly) and even now is threatening to send “observers” from ICE and other DHS branches to intimidate voters at the polls? Which party has funded massive increases in funding for ICE, ignoring multiple incidents of their overreach resulting in KILLING AMERICAN CITIZENS? Who sees no problem with ICE agents being masked and using illegal warrants to seize people, even though no other government law enforcement agency has ever felt the need to wear masks to hide their identities? Where is your law and order there? A party that has only two amendments they hold sacred, first the right of Americans to bear arms, any kind of arms, absolutely everywhere, including schools, churches and public events, irrespective of any common sense, and second the right of religious exemptions to allow “christians” to opt out of any and all public health laws? Show me where the New Testament says thou shalt not vaccinate. What if we were talking about Ebola or the plague instead of common but still dangerous childhood diseases? Insanity.
Let’s see. Lie and cheat, well let’s not forget steal. The Trump administration will eventually go down as the most corrupt ever in history, with nary a chance at ever holding them accountable due to the power of Presidential pardons and the Supreme Court’s ridiculous hypocrisy at putting the President above the law with almost blanket immunity for actions while in office. Donald Trump has executed more stock trades in his second term than ALL OF CONGRESS! Does no one see how blatant that is in terms of violating ethics? His sons are knee deep in the crypto business, causing billions of dollars in investor losses while raking it into the family coffers. They have created defense contract companies that are being awarded billions of dollars in contracts because they are associated with the Trumps. The Trump administration has presided over the single biggest “putting America up for sale” process by obliterating environmental reviews, declaring national park land open for investments, destroying endangered species protections so companies can mine or drill places that have long been held protected. A President who blatantly said during the last election to the oil and gas industry, “donate to me a billion dollars and I’ll deregulate everything that impedes you in oil exploration”. Who at this moment has a huge political PAC war chest which he isn’t spending to support Republicans in the midterms, why not? Because he is planning to somehow keep all the money to build himself a “library” (what a joke for a President that can’t read or spell) or more monuments to himself or perhaps just a brazen transfer to himself under the grounds that it’s “totally allowed”, just like Russian oligarchs paying for Don, Jr.s wedding. Nothing illegal here is there?
Then there is the hypocrisy. Unbelievable not only in terms of how obvious it is, but even more so that the base either doesn’t see it or frankly enjoys it. Start with the concept that Republicans are the “Family Values” party. What that really means is they are antiabortion to the point of hysteria (women shouldn’t be in control of their own bodies, old white men should make those decisions) followed by every means possible to relegate women back to “domestic bliss” as opposed to careers or independent lives. However, once that child someone didn’t want is born, the Republican Party does everything possible to undermine its chances for a healthy and productive life. Food stamps/SNAP benefits for the poor- need to cut those back. Medicaid for the poor- cutting as much as possible to make room for tax cuts for the rich. School lunches, why should we provide that? 1 out of 7 children in America are thought to be nutrition deficient, sometimes a school lunch is their best meal of the day but why bother? The poor need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps as they like to say, but god knows we wouldn’t want billionaires to pay their fair share of taxes would we? Housing? Once again many children live in inadequate, unsafe or just plain unfit housing but do we care? No. Onward to health. The vaccine lunacy wing has completely taken over the Republican Party, meaning less required vaccines, huge measles outbreaks, lack of Hepatitis B shots for at risk infants, ignoring flu shots putting all school children at risk, etc, etc. Drink cod liver oil or take Vitamin A or maybe Ivermectin, yeah that’s the ticket. While you’re at it, home school children via ignorant parents or groups that are highly unlikely to be versed in all of the necessary subjects, but you can rest assured have plenty of religious hype to teach them. Safe schools? Why that would require possible infringement on the god given right for every American to carry weapons of mass casualty anywhere they want, including schools. The United States is so far in front of the rest of the world when it comes to school massacres it’s not even close. But we “CARE” about the children!
Scream that Democratic Socialists are communists (highlighting that they don’t know what communists or socialists are), while Donald Trump has presided over the biggest intrusion of government ownership of private industry in U.S. history. Abandon the premise that Russia is the evil empire as espoused by none other than Ronald Reagan, and look the other way as Trump claims Xi, Putin and Kim Jong Un as his “besties”, people who outright claim the mantle of Communism.
Proclaim that only white people (especially white males) are discriminated against in America while black people are still being hung in certain states, immigrants (mostly Hispanic) are denigrated as “human scum”, drug dealers and murderers, home appraisals and loans clearly show a bias against minority homeowners and women still don’t make the same money as men. Ban essentially all immigration into America except for- you got it- white South Africans, that well known prejudice free group that loves all races equally.
Finally the greatest hypocrisy of all- “Christian values”. A party that constantly preaches “Christianity” while ignoring or blatantly violating the most basic of teachings from Jesus Christ himself. Put the Ten Commandments in schools, ignoring the facts that it was a document given to Moses and the Jews long before christianity even existed, and that the entire basis of the New Testament is that
Lying, cheating, stealing, corruption/grift and hypocrisy, the five pillars of the modern Republican Party. What have we missed? They are the party of hate, fear, loathing, abuse and cruelty. And you know what? A substantial portion of the Republican base relishes that. They hate people that don’t look like them, love bullying or threatening the weak, screwing over the poor, hating Jews and Muslims, blaming all America’s ills on immigrants instead of their own addictions, laziness or sense of white privilege. They endorse a two tier society, white Anglo Saxon “christians” on top while everyone else grovels.
